Each year, Women’s History Month is an opportunity to recognize the lasting influence of women’s achievements over centuries. This month and all year long, we celebrate the impact of women-owned businesses in their communities and throughout the U.S.
According to the U.S. Small Business Administration Office of Advocacy, there are over 12 million women-owned businesses in the U.S. These businesses contribute a total $2.1 trillion to the economy annually. This means that women-owned businesses bring money into their communities, providing resources for growth and revitalization to make them better places to visit, work, and live.
These businesses also bring jobs to their areas and stimulate the overall job market. There are more than 1 million women-owned employer firms in the U.S., employing over 10 million people and distributing about $418 billion in payroll. By providing work in their communities, women-owned businesses support residents not only with goods and services, but also with opportunities to make a living.
At Lendistry, we’re proud to spotlight our women-owned small business customers who uplift their communities. For example, Tanisha of White Hall Arts Academy offers musical training in a variety of styles to students of all ages in Los Angeles. Lorena of Maria Empanada brings authentic Argentinian empanadas to Denver, Colorado, and recently opened a fourth location. At GlowSpaRoc in Rochester, New York, Channel provides facials, waxing, and other spa treatments to help clients feel confident and comfortable in their skin.
These are just a few of our customers who make a difference, and an even smaller fraction of the millions of women-owned businesses nationwide. These businesses each have a significant local and national impact individually, and their combined influence is monumental.
While we honor Women’s History Month, be sure to stop by your local women-owned small businesses and show them some extra appreciation. Supporting local businesses is key to helping them continue to uplift our communities.
