Celebrating the Impact of LGBTQIA+-Owned Businesses During Pride Month

Jun 13, 2025

Pride Month is a time to honor the history of the movement for LGBTQIA+ equality and recognize both the past and present impact of the LGBTQIA+ community. Throughout the U.S., LGBTQIA+-owned small businesses make a difference at the local and national level. It’s important to support these businesses all year long, but Pride Month is an opportunity to show them extra appreciation.

The National LGBT Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC) reports that there are about 1.4 million LGBTQIA+ business owners in the U.S. LGBTQIA+-owned businesses generate an estimated over $2 million in annual revenue and contribute around $1.7 trillion to the national economy each year. In addition to providing for their communities as suppliers, this revenue enables LGBTQIA+-owned businesses to uplift their communities with funding that helps them thrive.

Through NGLCC, LGBTQIA+-owned businesses can become certified LGBT businesses enterprises (LGBTBEs). Businesses must be majority owned, operated, and managed by an LGBTQIA+ person to qualify. These certified businesses alone have created more than 33,000 jobs, providing employment opportunities in their neighborhoods and throughout the country. They largely contribute to the consulting, marketing, and professional service industries.

LGBTQIA+-owned small businesses are an essential factor in helping local neighborhoods become great places to live, work, and visit. While you celebrate Pride Month with loved ones and friends, be sure to stop by your local LGBTQIA+-owned small businesses to show your support.
